Bibi-Heybat Mosque

A Shia shrine-mosque on the Caspian shore south of Baku, built over the tomb of Ukeyma Khanum, a descendant of the Imams. The original 13th-century mosque, commissioned by Shirvanshah Farrukhzad II, was destroyed in 1936; the present building, completed in the 1990s, reproduces it. It remains one of the most visited Shia pilgrimage sites in Azerbaijan.
