Biography

Ayatollah Mohammad-Taqi Misbah Yazdi was an Iranian Islamic philosopher and jurist trained in the Qom Seminary under some of the era's foremost scholars, including Grand Ayatollahs Borujerdi and Khomeini. He taught in Qom's theological institutions from 1966 until his death in 2021 and directed the Imam Khomeini Educational Research Institute from 1991. A specialist in Mulla Sadra's transcendent philosophy, he is best known for his widely taught philosophy textbook Amuzesh-e Falsafeh, translated into English as Philosophical Instructions, along with extensive writings on jurisprudence and Quranic exegesis.

Notable works

Amuzesh-e Falsafeh (published in English as Philosophical Instructions), a widely used philosophy textbook in the Qom seminary; numerous works on Islamic jurisprudence, Quranic exegesis, and Mulla Sadra's transcendent philosophy (Hikmat-e Muta'aliya); founder and editor of the weekly Parto Sokhan.

Iyyaka na'budu wa iyyaka nasta'in.

You alone do we worship, and to You alone do we turn for help.

اهْدِنَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ

Ihdina 's-sirata'l-mustaqim.

Guide us on the straight path,

صِرَاطَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ

Sirata'lladhina an'amta 'alayhim ghayri'l-maghdubi 'alayhim wa la'd-dallin.
