Biography
Shaykh Anwar Abdulmalik was born and raised in New Jersey to a deeply rooted American Muslim family — a fourth-generation Muslim on his father's side, descended from American converts, with his mother's family hailing from Puerto Rico, surrounding him with Spanish language and culture growing up. Motivated to deepen this connection, he traveled to Valencia, Spain, to study at a language institute and earned his first Bachelor's degree in Spanish Language. In 2011, he began formal Islamic studies with local resident scholars in Sanford, Florida, then continued in 2013 in the holy city of Qom, Iran, where he earned a B.A. in Quran and Hadith Sciences. After returning to the U.S. in 2021, he moved to Cali, Colombia, serving the Shia community there with regular Friday sermons and community development work, and went on to earn a Master's Degree in Education. He now serves as an Islamic scholar, digital content creator, and overseer of I.M.A.M.'s Spanish content department, working to expand access to Islamic knowledge across the Spanish-speaking world, and teaches Quranic sciences to a youth group in the Washington, DC area.
