Biography
Talib Jauhari (27 August 1939 – 21 June 2020) was a Pakistani Islamic scholar, Shia Zaakir (religious orator), poet, historian and philosopher of the Twelver Shia sect. Born in Patna, Bihar, British India, he migrated to Pakistan and became one of the most prominent Shia scholars of the country. He studied at the Hawza Ilmiyya in Najaf under Grand Ayatollah Abu al-Qasim al-Khoei and was a student of Shaheed Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr. He was a classmate of Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani in Najaf. His sermons were broadcast on PTV (Pakistan Television Network) through the program Majlis-e-Shaam-e-Ghareeban, giving him nationwide fame. He was a promoter of Shia-Sunni unity in Pakistan and was widely regarded as the most prominent Shia scholar of his generation. The Government of Pakistan awarded him the Sitara-i-Imtiaz for his contributions to religious activities. He died on 21 June 2020 in Karachi from COVID-19. His father was Maulana Muhammad Mustafa Jauhar.
