Shrine complex in Salman Pak, southeast of Baghdad, honoring Salman al-Farsi, a Persian companion of the Prophet Muhammad and Imam Ali who governed al-Mada'in and is remembered for proposing the trench strategy at the Battle of Khandaq. The site also holds the graves of two other trusted companions, Hudhayfa ibn al-Yaman and Jabir ibn Abdullah al-Ansari, whose remains were relocated here in 1932 after their original graves near the Tigris became waterlogged.
