Al-Hamra Mosque (Yunus Ibn Matta Mosque)

One of the oldest places of worship in Kufa, dating to the 7th century and named for the Hamra tribe who allied with Imam Ali. The complex contains a shrine traditionally held to be the resting place of the Prophet Jonah (Yunus). Demolished by the Ba'athist government in 1991, the mosque and shrine were rebuilt in 2018 with the support of Grand Ayatollah al-Sistani.
